Vaccinations and Veterinary Care Information
Current vaccination records are required for admittance to protect all of our pet guests and staff - no exceptions. Vaccinations need to be performed by a licensed Veterinarian and related documentation provided to us. The Bordetella vaccine (required for all Canine Guests) must be administered at least 7 days prior to Boarding if it is not current within the past year. Rabies and Distemper are also required for all Canine and Feline guests. We also encourage vaccination for Feline Leukemia, although not required. All pets should be treated for Fleas and Ticks prior to entering our facility.
Please note, Canine Kennel Cough,(Tracheobronchitis), may still be contracted, even with the Bordetlla Vaccine. This airborne virus is very contagious and some Canines may carry the infection, with no noticeable symptoms, which can rapidly spread throughout any pet care facility. This airborne infection may also be spread through contact at dog parks, Veterinarian offices, from a neighbor's dog that transmits the virus through the air across fences, and anywhere that groups of dogs may be present. The Bordetella vaccine attempts to prevent spread of the illness, however does not treat for all strains of the infection that may be present at any given time, not unlike a human flue vaccine that attempts to target key strains of the infection, but does not contain every mutation of the infection possible.
Vaccination Records should be faxed in advance to 301-373-5155, delivered, or mailed, to eliminate any issues at Check-In. Pets arriving for Check-In without proper or current vaccination documentation from a licensed Veterinarian, in-hand or on file, will not be permitted to stay.
Pets arriving with evidence of fleas or ticks, or otherwise unsanitary contidion, will be bathed and treated at Owner's expense. Please follow your Veterinarian's guidance regarding regular application of flea/tick preventative, and/or prior to Boarding with us.
In the event of pet illness or injury while in our care, we will contact you and/or your emergency contact person, and your Veterinarian for further instruction, depending on the situation. If the situation is deemed a severe medical emergency, or we are unable to reach you, your emergency contact person, or your Veterinarian, where time is of the essence, we will act accordingly in the best interest of your pet and the guest pet population, as we find necessary. You will be notified of the situation as soon as we are able to reach you or as time allows, depending on the urgency of any situation.
Related costs incurred will be the full resposibility of the Pet's Owner, as outlined in the Boarding Contract, including pet transportation fees and time.
Pet Owners's are urged to mention any recent injuries or health concerns to us, no matter how insignificant they may seem at the time. Situations that might not seem significant with your pet in the home environment, may possibly have significant effects in a kennel environment on the individual pet and other pet guests. Our primary focus is to care for your pets while you are away, requiring we be full aware of any health concerns so we can do our job to the best of our abilities.
Veterinarians in closest proximity to Chesapeake Pet Resort, that may also be utilized depending on the severity of the situation, availability of medical staff at any location, and time of day and week, are listed on our "Links" page of this website.
